Countries by TierAlong with being categorized as a country of origin or destination, countries are also placed into tiers; tier 1, tier 2, tier 2 watch list, and tier 3 by the US Department of State based on their actions to reduce human trafficking and comply with international regulations.
- Tier 1 countries include the countries whose governments comply entirely with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s (TVPA) minimum standards. - Tier 2 countries have governments that do not fully comply with TVPA minimum standards, but they do make a significant effort to do so. - Tier 2 watch list countries have governments that do not completely comply with TVPA minimum standards, but are making an effort to achieve compliance with minimum standards and fall under another category of A, B, or C. - Category A includes countries whose absolute number of victims of severe forms of trafficking is very significant or is considerably increasing. - Category B includes countries that fail to provide evidence of an increasing effort to fight severe forms of human trafficking from the previous year. - Category C includes countries whose efforts toward compliance with minimum standards was determined by their pledge to take additional steps over the next year. - Tier 3 countries include the countries whose governments do not comply with the minimum standards and are not making an effort to do so. |
